Beacon is the Estate's live infrastructure status board. It watches every
property's monitors (UptimeRobot), OvrC device health, and APC UPS status, and rolls them into one
screen that stays calm when all is well and turns into an unmissable full-screen red alert the moment
something goes down — built to live on the lab wall.
Reading the board
- Nominal — you see just the high-level stat cards and a green “All systems nominal” banner. The full monitor list is tucked behind the All monitors toggle.
- Something’s wrong — a large alert panel names the affected property up top; click it to expand the details (monitor status, OvrC, APC, 90-day uptime). The whole screen goes red so it’s impossible to miss across the room.
- Colours: teal = up, amber = degraded, red = down.
Acknowledgements — the important part
When a property is down or degraded, an operator can acknowledge it — telling everyone “seen it, we’re on it” and calming the board back to nominal for a set time.
- How: tap ⤓ ACK on the alerting property (on its alert panel, tile, or table row). It silences that property’s alarm and the board returns to nominal (the banner notes how many are acknowledged).
- For how long: pick the window in ☰ → Ack duration (15 minutes up to 24 hours) before you ack. A live countdown shows the time remaining.
- Who: each acknowledgement shows the operator who set it, e.g. ACK · Avery · 14:30.
- Shared across every screen: acknowledgements are stored centrally, not on your device. Ack on your phone and the lab wall display plus every other open screen update on their own — within about 15 seconds — all showing the same state and who acknowledged.
- It’s temporary on purpose: when the timer lapses, the acknowledgement clears automatically and — if the property is still down — the alert returns. To clear it early, tap the ✕ on the badge.
- Displays are read-only: a signage/kiosk screen shows acknowledgements (and who made them) but can’t create or clear them — only signed-in operators can.
Other things worth knowing
- Test alert (☰ → Test alert) drops a clearly-labelled “SIMULATED ALERT (TEST)” onto every screen — including the lab wall, which lights up red and sounds the klaxon — so you can verify the whole alert + acknowledge flow end-to-end with no real outage. Toggle it off to clear (it also auto-clears after 15 minutes).
- Alert sound: a klaxon plays when the board enters red alert and repeats until it’s acknowledged or clears. Toggle it under ☰ → Alert sound (on by default).
- Always live: the board auto-refreshes every 60 seconds. Tap the time in the header to refresh immediately. The clock is 24-hour.
- Wall displays run in a keyboard-free, read-only kiosk mode and stay awake on their own — no sign-in needed on the lab network.
- What changed: tap the version number (or ☰ → Release notes) for the changelog.
